Sickies

Yes, this is my son sleeping in his car seat inside his crib. You see, when you have a baby who is sick, you do just about anything to get them to sleep. Especially if the previous night was less than stellar. Tuesday night we put Leo to bed a little later than his normal time, but as soon as we turned out our lamps, he was screaming. I took my turn at him but soon found that he would fall asleep as soon as I picked him up, and would start screaming when I put him down. Other problem, I had been sick for the past week and was now on the onset of a fever. Boo. So it was "tag you're it" for Danny, and he played doctor to both me and Leo all night. He finally came crawling into bed around 6 a.m. desperate for sleep. (He had been out on the lazy boy for the past 5 or 6 hours, poor guy.)
So last night I rounded up advice from my mom and sister-in-law, and put him in his car seat. Oh, and we gooped a whole bunch of vicks vapo rub on his feet and put his socks on over that. Success! Slept from 8 p.m to 8 a.m. and I'm crossing my fingers for the same result tonight. So far so good.

BEST DAY EVER!

So I thought I should do a little follow-up post for those of you who are up awake at night worrying about my little swimsuit predicament. I started looking up swimsuits on the internet for the more "endowed" women, and came across this awesome suit for just this type of person. (Called Miraclesuit) Only thing is they cost a small fortune, most running between $120-$150, I don't have that kind of cash lying around, especially not to spend on a bathing suit.
Well, today I was getting a few things for Leo at Burlington Coat Factory, and I thought I'd skim over their swim suit section, an inspired idea indeed. Right there were quite a few different styles of the Miraclesuit I had been looking at earlier! I braved the dressing room with and 3 or 4 suits and a cranky baby boy, and came out VICTORIOUS! I had to hold in the shouts of joy I wanted to exclaim when I put it on. The price tag wasn't bad either, $29.99. Thank you Burlington Coat Factory, I owe you one.
The swimsuit looks a lot like this one, only it has a square neck and is charcoal grey. And yes, I do look just like her when I put it on.

Swim Suit Fiasco

I went to Big 5 today to try on some sporty swimsuits thinking "hey, I used to wear those in high school and they are good because they have a lot of support." Which, let's be honest, after having a kid and still nursing the kid, a girl's got to have support. Let's just say, it was a frightening, eye-opening and somewhat shocking experience for me. I tried on at least five different suits of different sizes and styles, but walked away with none, and feeling quite defeated.

Luckily, there is a happy ending to this story, because as if by destiny there was a darling little pastry shop right next door. "Dainty Cakes Bakery." How could I not venture inside? I don't know what it was about the adorable little woman behind the counter that made me feel like I could share my traumatic swimsuit experience, but that's exactly what I did. We sat and talked for a good ten or fifteen minutes. She told me about how she comes to work everyday and makes different baked good recipes (she doesn't have a set menu). She told me a story about how she came up with a lemon cookie recipe on accident one day because she didn't have enough eggs for the cake she was doing, and how she added some other ingredients. We swapped "being short" stories, she is 4'11 1/2", and she made me forget about my bad fitting room event by telling me how good she thought I looked for just having a baby. Maybe it was just flattery to get me to buy some of her goodies, whatever it was though, it worked.

So even though I was unsuccessful at finding a swimsuit, I walked away with something much better, and much tastier. A beautiful peanut butter chocolate chip blondie.

M-O-T-I-V-A-T-I-O-N

Motivation is a funny thing. It seems to come in waves for me. Some waves last longer than others, and a lot of the time the waves are like a little tiny, pathetic ripple in a pond that goes pretty much nowhere. Why is this? What can be done about this? Maybe I need to start reading those motivational books that are so darn popular in the book stores. But then, I probably wouldn't be all that motivated to read it or to finish it. It's quite the predicament really. I've found that adding a baby to the mix only adds to my little problem because there are even more tasks all day that require motivation. Such as laundry, folding laundry, picking up after each "play station," changing diapers, changing clothes and wiping up spit-ups, giving baths, and walking the dog with baby, whoa. Who knew this could become an outing which requires so much effort. I literally think about people who have lots of kids on a daily basis when I think that keeping track of my one, not yet mobile child, is tough.
I also used to think that getting back into an exercise routine after baby would be easy because well, I wouldn't have a huge pregnant belly anymore and I would have lots of time when he was napping and such to put on an exercise DVD or something. I could not have been more wrong. I sometimes wish that the dreams I have about running at night would count as it actually happening in real life.
So even though I have days where I don't get as much checked off my list, and I only started a work out video only to get my baby who woke up from his nap way too early, I have the best little boy to be with all day. And all those things really aren't as important as taking the time to play airplane, sing to, rock, and have squealing contests with Leo.

Baby room. Check.

In true "Carly Fashion," Leo's room is just now starting to look like an actual baby room. And just in time for his 4 month mark. Most moms spend their entire 9 months of pregnancy stressing over and getting together the nursery so that is just perfect for when the little one arrives. It's not like that is when the baby can appreciate it anyway, they haven't even really developed their eye sight by then.
Anyway, I guess I'm just not that type of girl. I wish I could be more creative and be motivated to make cute things to fill the baby room, but it just isn't happening. However, I do have an amazing mom who put the whole crib together. The only credit I can take is that I helped pick out the fabric for the bumpers. Danny was the one who came up with the wall hanging, so thanks to everyone else, Leo now has some amazing things to stare at while he waits for me to get to him in the morning. Since by the way, he now has developed his full eye sight capabilities.

What the?

So, I am still pretty lost when it comes to blogging. It took me almost three days to figure out how to get the fabulous background set up, I had to walk away a few times because I was getting so frustrated. So if there are any of you out there who are experts at this, any tips would be appreciated.
